Sleeping in the 21st Century

One could argue that if a hotelier isn't able to produce a good night's sleep, she might as well pack her bags and go home. Coincidentally, the most tested technology at HITEC (Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition & Conference) this year was the Ammique bed, Ammique being a company that promotes a sustainable bed solution purportedly moving sleep into the 21st century.

Wanting to be most diligent in my blogging duties, I gave the Ammique bed several tries. The concept was odd, but the support seemed unmatched. The prospect of sleeping on what appears to be a troubled abacus, as opposed to a palatial mattress, gives the impression of being less than luxe. But the thousands of small plastic domed caps passing through rods, some of which are held within an extension spring, created a fluid yet sturdy undergird as I moved about the mattress-less bed. Encouraged by the managing director, Marlene Greenhalgh, I performed a sit-up to demonstrate the support offered by an Ammique bed. The execution was near effortless and attributed to Ammique's unique body contouring concept. As a result, I was impressed. Yet, I suppose the real question is whether performing an exertion free sit-up has any correlation to a good night's sleep.
Ammique also makes credible claims of being green, durable and the cleanest bed on the planet. As a future hotelier, I don't know that I'm willing to put my money where my blog is and purchase 100 beds. But I am willing to purchase one for personal use and see if Ammique is the future of the ultimate good night's sleep.
